My trip to San Pedro de Atacama in the Atacama Desert was awesome. It was a good thing that I had planned on 5 nights as the first 4 nights were too cloudy to take any night pictures of the stars. The fifth night was great as there were so many stars that can be seen with the naked eye.
We stayed in the town of San Pedro de Atacama (pop: 7,000 elev: 8k ft) and had hired a guide for daytime and nighttime tours. The town surprisingly had many restaurants with great food and was definitely a tourist town. The daytime tours of the area tourist places were great and were thankful were had a guide to take us over some really rough roads.
Finally on the last day, we were able to take pictures of the Milky Way. We were at Vallecito Valley near San Pedro and since we had only one night there is not a lot of variety in the landscapes. I did combine my Milky Way shots with some of the daytime shots of the area.
